Military Honors Dr. Jordan Pinsker.

“It is a great honor to receive this award from the Army Medical Department. Serving in both Active Duty and the National Guard as a physician over the last 20 years has been a tremendous experience, and has allowed me to work with great people from all over the country,” said Dr. Jordan Pinsker.

Community Service is an important part of the work done at the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute. Our staff contributes to the community in many different ways. In addition to leading Artificial Pancreas studies at the institute, Dr. Jordan Pinsker has been active in the military medical community for many years, helping to protect our soldiers around the world. Since 1997 he has served in the United States Army Medical Corps, initially on active duty and then in volunteering his time to serve in the California Army National Guard. As the Division Surgeon for the 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard in Los Alamitos, CA, Dr. Pinsker currently oversees the health and welfare of over 10,500 soldiers, and supervises and trains Army medical students, nurses, residents, and physicians.

In recognition of his efforts to advance military medicine, Dr. Pinsker was recently inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit. The Order of Military Medical was founded by the Commanding General of U.S. Army Health Services Command in April 1982 to recognize excellence and promote fellowship and esprit de corps among Army Medical Department (AMEDD) personnel. Membership in the Order denotes distinguished service, which is recognized by the senior leadership of the AMEDD. Membership in the Order recognizes those individuals who have clearly demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence, served in the Army Medical Department with selflessness, and have made a sustained contribution to the betterment of Army Medicine. Members are given a certificate and a medallion that signifies to all they meet that they are members of the Order. You will see members proudly display their medallions at formal AMEDD social functions.

Dr. Pinsker was also recently awarded the Department of the Army Surgeon General’s Physician Recognition Award. This award was established to provide for personal recognition by the Surgeon General for US Army Medical Corps officer personnel who have made a significant contribution to military medicine in either a medical, administrative, or field environment. This award recognized Dr. Pinsker’s accomplishments as a physician, teacher, leader and soldier that far exceeded those of his peers.

Dr. Pinsker currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. He deployed to Al Anbar Provence, Iraq, as a Field Surgeon for the 601st Area Support Medical Company in 2009. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Commendation Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Overseas Service Bar.

Dr. Pinsker performed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He then completed his fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. In 2009, he deployed to Iraq as a field surgeon with the 601st Area Support Medical Company. He was the Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI, before he left Active Duty to come to Sansum Diabetes Research Institute. Dr. Pinsker is triple board certified in Clinical Informatics, Pediatric Endocrinology and General Pediatrics.
