Sansum Diabetes Research Institute Celebrates Global Diabetes Walk

On November 14, World Diabetes Day, thousands of people from more than 70 countries on seven continents walked together to help raise awareness about diabetes. To help celebrate the annual event Sansum Diabetes Research Institute staff and friends joined the Global Diabetes Walk.
A landmark UN resolution designated World Diabetes Day as a United Nations Day to be observed every year beginning in 2007. It calls on relevant local, national and international bodies to fight the diabetes epidemic through public awareness and the development of policies for the prevention, treatment and care of the disease.
There are 246 million people estimated to be living with diabetes worldwide, including 25,000 in Santa Barbara County. Without concerted action and increased global awareness, the total numbers with diabetes will continue to rise.
